Today is the five year anniversary. Enough said. Do you remember where you were? Of course you do. We all do ... and will never forget. If I live to be a hundred I'll remember exactly where I was when I first saw the surreal images emanating from the television screen. It's one of those moments that defies explanation. We remember because we have to remember. 9/11/01 has become to us what 12/7/41 was to our grandparents ... "a day that will live in infamy."
Like our grandparents, we cannot afford to forget. My friend puts it this way. "We are the guardians of a way of life the whole world envies, not because of our standard of living but because of our freedom. The separation of church/state, so often disdained, is the direct cause of many of those freedoms. We have been, as yet, spared much of the religious turmoil common in the rest of the world. The fellows who attacked our land did so at least in the name of their God. Sectarian violence aside, we have a way of life worth emulation and, so, worthy of protection."
And so we cannot forget.
Take a look at the video on this site. Just click where it says "click here to preview". It's 9 minutes long ... but it's worth every minute. Take a look at it ... and remember.
